Reiki explained
What is reiki?
Reiki is a system of energy healing. This energy is found everywhere in the universe; in quantum physics, it is considered subatomic energy, which underlies all matter.
Reiki is the modality where this universal life force energy is channeled to support the healing of imbalances, which may include stress, manifestations into physical disease, etc.
This life force energy has many names across various cultures and civilizations; in Chinese culture it is called Qi, in Yogic teachings it is Prana.
Reiki is a technique that supports stress reduction and relaxation, thereby supporting the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
How does it work?
Energy is all around us. When someone walks into a room and is happy and joyful, we feel that lightness around us; we feel it in our bodies, and often in an immediate response, we smile. Conversely, when someone walks into a room and is in a foul mood, we feel that low energy; we feel the vibration in our bodies, and we may tense up or notice our mood change in response.
We can describe, in the language of quantum physics, that everything is energy: our bodies, our thoughts, lights, sounds, etc. Everything is made up of particles that are interconnected and continually being impacted by each other.
It is this interconnectedness of energy that reflects how Reiki/Prana/Qi moves through space and time.
Healing happens on many different levels; physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, etc. These parts of us are interconnected; our energy moves across these various spaces.
The energy field of the human body is often referred to as an “aura”. Our auras are the unseen energies of all our connected parts (physical, emotional, mental, spiritual selves).
When we experience imbalances in our auras, in our energy, they are reflected in our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies (and vice versa). What causes these imbalances? We can be impacted by any matter of:
- Traumatic events
- Intergenerational patterns and unhealed issues
- Karma – current/past
- Interactions with others – positive/negative
- And more.
In phone/virtual healing sessions, the practitioner supports healing on a holographic level by channeling Reiki/Qi/Prana/universal life force to the client’s auric field, which is interconnected with all parts of the self.

How can reiki help?
Reiki is a healing modality that taps into our energetic bodies, which impacts our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual selves. It can help us with healing any number of the following on an energetic level:
- Stress
- Pain
- Grief
- Karma
- Emotional well-being
- Lack of mental clarity
- etc.
Unaddressed patterns and issues of pain, grief, addiction, not having our needs met, abuse, trauma, etc., pass down through generations until they are felt and addressed. Reiki can help with supporting this healing on an energetic level, in cooperation with other modalities (ie: psychotherapy, somatic therapy, medication, etc.).
What reiki cannot do
Reiki is not a substitute for medical care. Reiki is a healing modality that compliments one’s overall wellness. It is recommended that clients continue to see their regular health care providers (ie: medical doctor, physiotherapist, psychotherapist, acupuncturist, chiropractor, osteopath, psychologist, etc.) while adding in Reiki as part of their overall health and wellness.
